Alcohol And Speed Factors In Cowiche Crash That Injured Four

September 7, 2011

A single vehicle crash along a Washington roadway Monday evening has left one person in critical condition and three others with minor injuries. KNDO News reports that alcohol and speed are to blame for the crash.

A Washington State Patrol spokesman stated a 23-year-old woman was driving with three friends in a silver Mazda sedan down Thompson Road in Cowiche, Washington. It was just after 7:00 PM, when the young woman who had been drinking earlier, punched the gas while rounding a curve. She lost control of the vehicle just before it began to skid and roll across the asphalt and into the hedges in the yard of a nearby home.

A 22-year-old male passenger was not wearing his seat belt during the crash and was thrown from the vehicle, while another passenger was trapped in the wreckage that had now caught fire.

Rescuers were able to free the trapped passenger from the burning car and had the young man who was thrown out airlifted to Yakima Memorial Hospital. The driver and other passenger were treated and released at the scene for minor injuries.

Troopers say that the driver has charges pending against her stemming from the speeding and alcohol that contributed to the crash.
