Washington Motorcyclist Injured In Three-Vehicle Crash
November 2, 2011
Lanes were closed and traffic backed up for miles after an accident last night on I-405 in Kirkland, Washington. According to the Kirkland Reporter, a motorcyclist was injured in the three-vehicle pile-up.
Authorities say the accident happened just before 7:20 PM Tuesday night, when a driver in the right lane attempted to make an illegal and unsafe lane change. The driver’s maneuver caused the vehicle to strike another car already in the lane. The driver of the second vehicle then swerved and hit the motorcycle. The biker was thrown from the machine upon impact. Luckily, the biker was wearing a helmet and only suffered minor injuries, including a broken arm. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he was treated and released. The drivers of the other two vehicle involved were not injured in the crash.
According to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) a common reason that many motorcycle accidents occur is because other drivers have a hard time seeing bikers. They say they best way to combat this problem is to always have your headlight on and never driver in another vehicles “No Zone”, or blind-spot.
