Cable median barriers scrutinized in Tri-City

Tri-City Herald reported today that the cable median barrier system being installed on Interstate 182 in Pasco and already in use on the new section of Highway 240 is being scrutinized after a string of fatal accident on Interstate 5 at Marysville involving a similar barrier. The galvanized steel cable system is more flexible than concrete and metal barriers and can catch vehicles rather than direct them into traffic. However, in Marysville, several vehicles slid underneath the barrier and into oncoming traffic.

17-year-old arrested in suspicious West Valley fire

A series of suspicious fires in West Valley and Yakima Nation have singed several hundred acres of brush over the past week, as reported by Yakima Herald Republic. Authorities arrested a 17-year-old boy Wednesday night in connection with the fires for reckless burning, according to the sheriff’s report. The causes of the fires is still unknown, but authorities believe they were intentional.

Runaway RV crash near Port Angeles leaves 15 injured

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported that a recreational vehicle lost control yesterday outside Port Angeles, hitting three other vehicles and crashing down a 20-foot gully. 15 passengers were injured in the auto accident. The driver was listed in critical condition Wednesday morning, three were listed as stable, and 11 others were released from care Tuesday. The driver, his wife, their four children, and a family friend were in the RV, while the other cars were carrying tourists from France, Florida, and Bellevue.

Suspect Arrested in STP Bicycle Hit-and-Run

A Portland motorist was arrested Sunday in connection with a felony hit-and-run involving a bicyclist according to the Seattle Post Intelligencer. The bicyclist was participating in the annual Seattle to Portland ride on Highway 30 northwest of Portland when the motorist struck him. He suffered serious injuries and was slammed by the vehicle into two other bicyclists, who sustained minor injuries. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, driving under the influence and violating his parole. The victim was listed in fair condition Sunday evening.
